St. John Neumann Men’s Club

A Parish Ministry of St. John Neumann Catholic Church

President's Message

March 5, 2020

Gentlemen,

We had a good turnout at our March meeting as you would expect with our guest of honor, Archbishop Wenski in attendance.  His talk was very interesting on the state religion and how all denominations are losing parishioners, even the evangelicals.  His message was on the importance and challenges of passing on the faith to those we love and those we meet in our daily lives. Some of the members even enjoyed a fine cigar with the Archbishop after the meeting out in the pavilion.

Coming up on April 6 is next meeting, and our guest speaker will be David Armstrong, president of St Thomas University.

Also, in April is our Swing into Spring dinner dance (formerly known as Sweethearts night).  The event will take place on Saturday April 18 at 8 pm in Resurrection Hall.  We are planning to use the same caterer and music DJ that were involved in the event last year.  Please reserve your tickets early so that we can get a good determination of how many people we need to prepare for. Tickets will be sold at $90 per couple and $50 for a single. I will be sending out a Flock Note invitation with an RSVP request.  Please respond when you get the email.

Our Scholarship program is accepting entries until March 23, 2020.  This year we are accepting applications from men’s club members or registered St John Neumann parishioners. The questions for each entry level have been posted on our website.  As a reminder, the deadline for entries and essay submittal is March 23, 2020.  Winners will be announced at our April Swing into Spring dinner dance and awards will be presented at the May meeting.

Our May meeting’s guest speaker will be John Steinbauer, Jr.  John has been Tournament Director of the Junior Orange Bowl International Golf Championship since 1998, U.S. Team organizer for the annual World Golf Team Championship (Japan), and other interesting activities for many years.  We will also be presenting the Merit Scholarships winner awards at that meeting also.  It promises to be a very festive night.  Please make plans to attend and support our young adults.

Our annual fundraiser, the Tom Rhodes memorial golf tournament is coming fast on May 16, 2020.  We need golfers, sponsors, donations for our raffle prizes and volunteers to help at the course.  The tournament will be held at the Trump Doral National Golf Course.  We will be playing the Gold course.  Please help make this event successful.

Don’t forget to register with Our Lady of Florida for the annual St John Neumann men’s retreat the weekend of June 5 through 7, 2020. You can register on the Our Lady of Florida website or you can use the link on our webpage.

Finally, our fraternal year is quickly drawing to a close.  My term as President will end on June 30, 2020, and we are accepting nominees for the office of president and other board seats.  Please get involved with the club at a higher level and volunteer for a board position.

If you would like to be considered for a position on the board for our next year, please contact myself or one of the other board members. We need men to fill the following positions:

  • President

  • Vice President

  • Secretary

  • Treasurer

  • Sergeant-at-Arms

  • Director of Operations

  • Director of Events

  • Director of Ministries

  • Director of Food Services

Our March 2nd Dinner Meeting

At our John Sullivan St Patrick’s Day Men’s Club Dinner Meeting tonight, our Archbishop Thomas Wenski brought a prayer of blessing and a timely message on the importance and challenges of passing on the Faith to those we love and those we meet around us. The membership enjoyed an evening of sharing fellowship with the Archbishop and each other, and even a fine cigar.
