IThe Men’s Club jump started the Advent season with our annual Father/Son - Father/Daughter Christmas Dinner. What a memorable evening, complete with a visit from Santa Claus who helped hand out our Zoo Miami related gifts and raffle prizes to both the young and shall we say “more mature (at least physically)” attendees. What a blessing it was to hear and see our special guest speaker Ron Magill tell the story of a rescued eagle. Whether you were 6, 36 or 76 years old all 112 in attendance were entertained, enthralled and educated. The Men’s Club was proud to honor Ron with a check for the Ron Magill Conservation Endowment.
November Thanksgiving Dinner Meeting Photos

Our November Thanksgiving Dinner Meeting saw the Men’s Club “Gave Thanks” to our Veterans. The night began with four cadets from the Miami Killian High School JROTC program Color Guard presenting the flag. The JROTC director Major James Brown (US Army Retired) gave us a brief overview of their successful program. It was a pleasure to see these fully uniformed young men sharply execute the Flag presentation ceremony. The contrast in age and continuity of service was appreciated by our 24 attending Veterans. (10 USAF, 9 Army, 3 Marines, 1 Navy and 1 Coast Guard) SJN’s, Octavio Orochena (US Army PFC 1962-65) sang the National Anthem. Instead of military issued “MREs” a traditional Thanksgiving dinner was enjoyed by all 62 men in attendance. Our speaker Lt. Col. Tom Gammons (USAF Retired) who is the Education Officer at the Miami Military Museum gave us an excellent presentation on the history of the Richmond Naval Station as well as the impact of military events on our community.

The Men’s Club entered the 50 days of the Church’s Easter season with an Easter Monday Dinner on April 10. The meeting was moved to the month’s second Monday in deference to Holy Week. Because of this change, attendance was subdued but those present were amply rewarded by a plentiful and delicious lamb dinner. Our guest speaker was Eva Lizardo from the Miami-Dade County Division of Environmental Resources Management (DERM). Eva had an informative presentation focused on our water resource -The Biscayne Aquifer. Her team is charged with making sure our businesses and citizens maintain proper procedures to protect our freshwater supply.

Your Men’s Club’s Annual “Wearin’ of the green” St Patrick’s Day Dinner. Our outstanding kitchen staff led by Jimmy “Mc”Iovino prepared Corned Beef and Cabbage as well as Shepherd’s Pie. Men’s Club members Mark Minervino (who’s grandmother was from County Kerry) and David Donnelly presented the group with a history of St Patrick himself and how the Irish saved Christianity (worth a google search for more info on that). The Donnelly brothers led us in a few Irish sing-a-longs, a few jokes were told, and Irish beverages were present in some of the cups when we shared a toast to the memory of the Men’s Club’s John Sullivan.

Special — make that extra special— guest speaker Mercury Morris, discussed how the defeat in Super Bowl VI motivated the team to that historical perfect season capped off with a victory in Super Bowl VII. Mercury told us that he didn’t find God, God found him, a comment to ponder.

ABOUT US

Faith ● Fellowship ● Service
Founded in 1981, the St. John Neumann Men’s Club is a Catholic men's group dedicated to promoting faith development, camaraderie, forming enduring friendships, and service to build a better Parish community at St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Miami, FL. Our monthly dinner meetings provide an opportunity for men of our Parish to enrich our faith, build friendships, hear informative and uplifting speaker presentations, and take action through service to support the work of the Parish, its ministries, and the wider community-at-large.
Thanks to our annual Golf Tournament and the work of our members, we are able to raise funds in support of our charitable projects and to assist over 20 spiritual and community outreach ministries of the Parish, such as Family Matters, Men’s Emmaus, Our Lady of Florida Spiritual Retreats, Homeless Ministry, Youth Ministry, Marriage Covenant Ministry, Habitat for Humanity, and St. John Neumann Catholic School. From 1996 to 2019 (Pre-Covid) , our Christmas Teddy Bear Project visited and delivered Christmas Teddy Bears to over 11,000 children hospitalized during the Christmas holidays at area hospitals, including Baptist, Miami Children’s, and Jackson. The Club distributes over 1500 orchids every Mother's Day to the mothers, grandmothers, and great-grandmothers of the Parish.
